11 New Restaurants

Aquavit, 65 E. 55th [Park/Mad] 212.307.7311. While Marcus Samuelsson isn't our favorite chef in town, he's got plenty of admirers. Here at the restaurant's new digs, Nils Noren is his executive chef.

BLT Fish, 21 W. 17th [5th/6th] 212.691.8888. Prodigiously talented Laurent Tourondel (pictured) returns to the sea (for which he has a special affinity) in the old AZ space.

Bombay Talkie, 189 9th [21st] 212.242.1900. Bombay street food, courtesy of that city's Sunitha Ramaiah.

Gari, 370 Col [77th/78th] 212.362.4816. Extraordinary sushi, a sister restaurant to the East Side favorite.

Poetessa, 92 2nd [5th] 212.387.0065. Chef Pipa Calland's new Italian spot.

Porcupine, 20 Prince [Mott] 212.966.8886. American comfort food.

Restaurant 343, 343 E. 85th [1st/2nd] 212.717.6200. Steak is featured here, with a Bouley grad in the kitchen.

Sala One-Nine, 35 W. 19th [5th/6th] 212.229.2300. An offshoot of Sala on the Bowery, now serving up Spanish tapas in the Flatiron district.

Starwich, 153 E. 53rd [Lex] 212.218.3057. The growing national empire of tasty sandwiches and salads opens their second location here.

Tony Luke's, 576 9th [41st/42nd]. Old Philly Style Sandwiches from their hometown — cheese steaks are always a welcome addition in our book.

Viet Cafe, 345 Greenwich St. [Harrison/Jay] 212.431.5888. Chef Lan Tran Cao cooks up her native Vietnamese cuisine.
Remember the good old/bad old days of New York magazine? The weeks when they ran articles like 'The Nazi Next Door' and 'Sharon Stone — Can She Make AIDS Hot Again?' (Nostalgic sigh…) Seriously, what fun is it for us if New York is a consistently great read again? (We can add to our list of things we're dreading this year: New York continues its upward spiral). This week, Adam and the Mossettes have a drawing by Christo of "The Gates" which the artist will be signing on February 15th at the Central Park Boathouse from 4-6:30pm. We think "The Gates" is going to be one of the highlights of the year — this is a perfect opportunity to shower gratitude on the artist and his wife/partner Jeanne-Claude.
