This summer, the Austrian Tourist Office is bringing a beloved Austrian tradition to New York: The Dirndl.

Fun, feminine and flirty, this traditional Austrian dress convinced British designer Vivienne Westwood that "there would be no ugliness in the world if every woman wore a dirndl."

We like the way she thinks, so we asked a group of "Dirndl Ambassadors" to join us for various events and introduce New Yorkers to the modernized versions of Maria von Trapp's favorite clothing item. If you happen to spot a group of people dressed in colorful Dirndl, be sure to take a picture and post it on our facebook page – we'll give away small prizes to the first five posts we receive!

Join us this Saturday, July 28 during the Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long in Prospect Park or next week August 4 at the P.S. 1 warm-up in L.I.C.
