“A composer many believe to be the best of his generation.” —The New York Times
Composer-performer Mikel Rouse started his career by opening for the Talking Heads. Merce Cunningham commissioned him to score eyeSpace in 2006 and choreographer Ulysses Dove used his music for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Vespers. He also created the popular downtown production Dennis Cleveland (The Kitchen)—an operatic talk show.
Now the diverse and multi-talented Mikel Rouse is back at BAM with the New York premiere of Gravity Radio. Evocative radio reports pulled from AP news feeds and 14 intricate songs that feature a string quartet weave together to create an immersive pop song cycle.
