RUSHING THE GROWLER 'Rush the growler' was the late 19th century phrase for getting tap beer from a local bar to your home (or workplace) using a pail or other container. Children were often the conveyers of the growler, charged with bringing suds back to dear old mom and dad. The exact origin of the expression isn't known. (Read more on the history of growler-rushing here.) Beer via growler has had a resurgence in recent years—you can even rush a growler from Whole Foods. Here's a list of local beers only available in growlers.
BARS The Good Beer Seal is a website that gives its endorsement to independently-owned local bars—27 currently—which show a commitment to craft beer, properly served. As a list of where to enjoy fine beer in NYC, we can't improve on it.
