charity: water

Here is a statistic we learned recently that we can not shake: Nearly 1 billion people on the planet do not have access to clean drinking water.

It can't be true but it is true. That's one in every seven people around the world.

Scott Harrison went from Manhattan nightclub promoter to charity: water founder, after a sea change that actually took place at sea, aboard one of the Mercy Ships, and after time spent in Liberia.

His goal and the goal of charity: water is to bring clean drinking water to people in developing nations. It's not a great technological challenge. Just a human one: the collective will to do it.

The organization has Five Ways to Give Clean Water This Holiday Season and we urge you to support the cause in any way you can. You can make a donation, start a fundraising campaign, shop in their online store, go to their charity: ball on December 12th, or pay it forward.

Charity Navigator gives them four stars, its highest rating. For their part, charity: water promises that 100% of public donations directly fund water projects.

When you raise a glass this holiday season, remember how lucky we are.
