Every Person in New York

PROOF Media for Social Justice is a non-profit that "uses photography as a tool to educate global audiences about the economic, political, and humanitarian hardships facing post-conflict societies." There's a benefit for the organization on Monday, April 11th, 6-9pm, featuring works by established and emerging photographers. It takes place at Sun Studios, 628 Bway [Houston/Bleecker] and tickets are $25. The event will be hosted by Eric Bogosian. We encourage you to look at the gallery of images to be auctioned, which includes the one above—Grattan Street by Rafael Fuchs. Please note, though, that there is an image of 9/11 that you may find distressing.

The Helene Marks Early Start Foundation "finds, funds, and fosters exemplary programs that offer children a healthy environment to achieve social and emotional well-being and academic success." On Tuesday, May 10th, 7-10pm, at Lallisse Mediterranean Wine & Food, 161 Lex [30th], there will be a wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction to raise awareness of the organization and funds for their work. Tickets are $75.

Culture for One in New York is a fledgling program started by Linn Tanzman, founder of For One in New York, which "supports charitable programs dedicated to the welfare of local children who are in need." Working with Forestdale in Queens, the program is designed to bring foster kids into Manhattan to theater, orchestral concerts, and other arts events that they have never experienced. Many of them have never even left Queens. Recently, Ms. Tanzman led a group of nine foster children, ages two to ten (along with three foster parents), to see The Gazillion Bubble Show—you can imagine how a simple excursion like that could be life-changing to a young foster child. If you'd like to support the program, donate here, specifying the Culture for One program in the 'special instructions' section.

Jason Polan started Every Person in New York in March of 2008. He plans on working on the project until it is finished. Look for Every Person in New York on Tuesdays in MUG and daily at Jason's site.
