As we do once a semester or so (and this being Teacher Appreciation Week), MUG is asking you to help get books into NYC classrooms. Today we're highlighting four project requests.
Help Students Enter the Reading Zone — As a former school librarian, I know the importance of having books that stimulate reading, that matches student's interests and reading abilities, and that are updated. This year I have been assigned to a classroom. I am currently working with 7th grade in the areas of social studies and literacy. [$967 needed] ‣ More
Reading Our Way to Excellence — All my life I've had a love affair with books. I often joke with my students about going outside to play Tag as a kid and getting teased about coming outside with a book that I read when I got caught. It is that love of reading that I seek to instill in my students with quality literature. [$626 needed] ‣ More
Books For The 5th Grade Bookworms! — We are a class of fifth grade book-lovers in a low-income community where students have many needs, including those that are related to academics. Despite this, my students are some of the brightest and hardest-working kids I've ever encountered! [$424 needed] ‣ More
Guided Reading Making Miracles — Do you remember the first time you read a book and submerged yourself in the story? My students will be very happy to feel the way you felt then, and that would only be possible by helping them improve their reading ability through a guided reading library. [$357 needed] ‣ More
Jason Polan started Every Person in New York in March of 2008. He plans on working on the project until it is finished. Look for Every Person in New York on Tuesdays in MUG and daily at Jason's site.
