THE MORNING LINE "Many forms of government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." —Winston Churchill, 1947

Hang Gliding
About 75 miles north of the city, Ellenville Flight Park teaches all levels and all ages to hang glide as well as paragliding.

Learning to Fly
The New York Flight and Skydiving Club, in Farmingdale, offers flight lessons by certified and licensed instructors as well as 'skydiving services'. At Long Island Skydiving in East Moriches, they say they can have first-timers dive-ready in as little as an hour for a tandem freefall.

Pogo
It is not your father's pogo stick. The Flybar turns the great bounce into an extreme sport. They're also working on a 'smart', interactive version.

Balloons
The Hudson Valley always looks good to us at ground level, but you can get a whole new perspective of the region with a Blue Sky Balloons flight. Captain Bill Hughes has been flying balloons since 1970.

Trapeze School
It may take a few tries to be flying through the air with the greatest of ease, but the Trapeze School New York at Pier 40 in Hudson River Park and indoors at Circus Warehouse in LIC, 212.242.8769, can make it happen.
