Help for the Haunted
Every Person in New York

Novelist John Searles writes beautifully and he's an ace storyteller.

He wrote one of our very favorite first novels, Boy Still Missing, in 2001, followed up by Strange But True in 2004, followed by… a very long pause. The pacing in his novels is far more assured.

Next week, his third novel, Help for the Haunted, is out and we can't wait.

It's a coming-of-age story wrapped in a murder mystery (possibly wrapped in an enigma) that promises to be perfect October reading. Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn calls it "dazzling…a novel both frightening and beautiful."

On Monday, September 16, 8pm, there's a book launch for Mr. Searles hosted by fellow author Wally Lamb at the Cherry Lane, with a reading, q&a, and signing. It's $26 to attend, which gets you a copy of the book. Afterwards, schmoozing, with drinks.

Jason Polan started Every Person in New York in March of 2008. He plans on working on the project until it is finished. Look for Every Person in New York on Tuesdays in MUG and daily at Jason's site.
