Bar Tonno, 17 Cleveland [Spring/Kenmare] 212.966.7334. Scott Conant, whose L'Impero restaurant in Tudor City is one of the most welcome additions to NYC dining in years, goes for an Italian take on raw fish at this small Soho spot. Opening momentarily.

Bozu, 296 Grand [Roebling/Havemeyer] Bklyn 718.384.7770. Inventive Japanese tapas, cool design and crowd, cash only.

Cafe Gray, 60 Columbus Circle, 212.823.6338. There's not much that would bring us willingly back into that hideous farrago known as the Shops at Columbus Circle (Don't Call It a Mall!), but this mall is the current home to Gray Kunz, the great chef who has been sorely missed over the past few years. That's reason enough. (As for the much-delayed opening: the carpets are in, so it should be, with luck, in the next week or so.)

Cru, 24 5th [9th] 212.529.1700. Shea Gallante is the draw (he was the chef de cuisine at Bouley) as he demonstrates his skills with an ambitious, innovative, (though, with entrees averaging $34, expensive, too) menu, plus an extraordinary wine cellar, and great wines by the glass.

Lure Fishbar, 142 Mercer [Prince] 212.431.7676. The old Canteen space has been taken over by the Lever House's John McDonald. Early word is positive on the food, and the interior is sleekly gorgeous.

Pace, 121 Hudson [N. Moore] 212.965.9500, an Italian restaurant to add to Jimmy Bradley and Danny Abrams' perfect track record (The Red Cat, The Harrison, and The Mermaid Inn).
Cheeseheads: Just in to Murray's, 257 Bleecker [6th/7th] 212.243.3289: a great stash of cheese from the UK: Teifi, Singleton's White Cheshire, Caerphilly, Ribblesdale, Keens Farmhouse Cheddar, and more…
