Locks of Love

For the Rapunzels and Fabios among you…if you're getting your long tresses shorn, consider donating your hair to Locks of Love. If you do, you'll provide a hairpiece for children suffering from hair loss who could not otherwise afford what would cost $3,000 or so at retail.

Most of the kids who receive the hair prosthetics do not have cancer — generally, children receiving chemotherapy will re-grow hair after the treatment ends. Many of them have alopecia, or one of a number of genetic, traumatic, or behavioral diseases or syndromes.

To donate, here are the guidelines. Some salons in the city will give a free cut for Locks of Love donors. Here's that list — salons in Manhattan are listed as NY, NY, and there are some under Brooklyn, several areas of Queens (i.e. Astoria), and Staten Island.
We're updating our information on moving companies and trying to sort through the flat rate versus the more traditional estimate system. If you've had experience with flat rate pricing (good or bad) we'd like to hear about it. Email us here.
