THE BASICS: Mixed Greens, 601 W. 26th [11th/W. Side Hway] 212.331.8888, www.mixedgreens.com
WHAT IT IS: A gallery/website that sells original, unique works of art by emerging artists.
SO, WHAT'S NEW ABOUT THAT? Paige West, Mixed Greens' founder, is on a mission to demystify buying and collecting art. To that end, everything about this gallery is accessible, from information and background on the website, to a comfortable, helpful atmosphere inside the gallery that is certainly a rarity.
IS THERE A SHOW ON NOW? There is. It's called "Indices" and it features work by Rob Conger. Mr. Conger uses a surprising canvas — latch-hook rugs — to fashion portraits of a wide range of the famous and infamous, including Leona Helmsley, Anton LeVey, and Jane Goodall.
WHO ELSE IS WORTH NOTING? If you spend some time on the site, you'll find a lot of interesting work. But on the walls of the gallery (actually, it's more of a loft office/gallery), Dirk Westphal's photos elicit surprising emotion in scrutinizing goldfish and Coke O'Neal's fuzzy prints of Elizabeth Taylor, Kim Novak, and Marlon Brando have a lingering, sepulchral melancholy.
EXPENSIVE? You can browse by price on the site. Prices start at $80, with a wide range of prints and drawings under $500. It goes up to about $15,000 for a large installation.
HOW ABOUT GIVING A GIFT? They've made it quite easy: there are gift certificates you can arrange online in various amounts, and you can leave the choice of artwork up to the recipient.

For a future article, MUG is looking for New York artist websites (fine arts, in this case, rather than performing arts). If you'd like to suggest a site, please email us.
