Beer This Thursday, the Ultimate Belgian Tasting event takes place, courtesy of Ale Street News and the Belgian Consulate at Heartland Brewery at the Empire State Building. Your $98 gets you Belgian nibbles and an incredible lineup of all the good stuff from Orval to Urthel.
Mangos A box of luscious champagne mangos (15-18 in a box, depending on size) can be yours for $15 or so if you head into Chinatown. Otherwise you're likely to pay about $3 a pop.
Opening A lifetime ago, or really just February, 1999, we wrote about 'ino, Jason Denton's first restaurant—a place full of pleasures far beyond its mini-me dimensions. Since then, Jason and his brother, Joe, have added Lupa, Otto, and 'inoteca to their lineup. On Thursday (or thereabouts), they open far north, verging on nosebleed elevation, with Bar Milano, 323 3rd [24th] 212.683.3035.

Conference This Friday and Saturday, parents, students, educators, advocates, and pols are welcome at the "Schools, Food and Community" conference presented by The Baum Forum and Teachers Colleague Columbia University. The series of workshops, speakers, and roundtables will focus on combating childhood obesity. It's $115 for the full conference, though you can buy tickets for individual events. Details are here.
Movies Coffee, corn, and asparagus are all featured players in the Food for Thought Film Fest, with screenings on April 12th and 19th.
