NYCe Wheels the skint |
Here's a way to lose the rush hour crush, gain some eco-cred and add a little fun to running errands.
Just make a pit stop to NYCeWheels, 1603 York [84th/85th] 212.737.3078, where they stock the latest and greatest in "energized and portable rides." That means: electric bikes, electric trikes, scooters, and folding bikes.
Among the notables, the eZee Forza has dial-activated cruise control. The OHM Urban electric bike handles potholes with aplomb. The Strida folding bike does its folding act in a mere six seconds. And the Gomier takes the trike back from the tykes.
The bikes aren't cheap. While you can find some models for $400, most are over $1000, many are twice or three times that. Of course, if you were biking (electric or not), you might be able to forego the monthly subway pass ($1068 for the year) or car. And have more fun, too.
Check out their FAQ for answers to questions such as Do electric bikes require a license or registration? (No); Are folding bikes safe? (Yes); How to pronounce the brand names; and Are electric bikes awesome?
Their answer to that one: "Totally awesome. Some would even say righteous."
