One Brick is a 100% volunteer group that supports community organizations and non-profits, one brick at a time.

Started in San Francisco, it now has ten chapters around the country, including one in New York. Casual volunteering is the basic idea. You look at their calendar and RSVP for any activities that interest you. There are no long-term commitments, which makes it ideal for New Yorkers' complicated schedules.

Other umbrella volunteer organizations include the Volunteer Referral Center, Volunteer Match, and NY Cares.
