Restaurant News (Part 2)
Every Person in New York

Williamsburg
Jason Denton, who created 'ino, the 'inotecas, and the brand-new indie food and wine at Lincoln Center—and who can do no wrong in our book—has opened Betto, 138 N. 8th [Berry/Bedford] 718.384.1904. Small plates, Italian food, wine, of course.

The website for Isa, 348 Wythe [S. 2nd] 347.689.3594, isn't like any other restaurant website we know of—and that's surely the point, made by owner Taavo Somers (Freemans and Peels). The place is a one-off, too: most people call it rustic or ski lodge-y. But everyone calls it gorgeous. Mediterranean food, still finding its sea legs. Currently BYOB.

Carroll Gardens
Their resumes, collectively, boast Gramercy Tavern, Alain Ducasse, and Anella, so hopes are high for Battersby, 255 Smith [Degraw/Douglass], the forthcoming restaurant from Joseph Ogrodnek and Walker Stern. Taking over the old Patois space, the two will be cooking food inflected by France and Italy, sourced locally, with occasional global accents.

Greenpoint
And speaking of Anella, the owners say if Anella and St. Vitus had an offspring, Calyer, 92 Calyer [Franklin] would be "its wayward child." Mostly Spanish tapas, totally great atmosphere.

Astoria
They probably wouldn't appreciate the label gastropub, but that's the general idea of William Hallet, 36-10 30th Ave. [36th/37th] 718.269.3443, which opened this summer. Yes, they have a good burger, but also a Cobb salad with pork belly, foie gras sliders, and suckling pig.

Long Island City
John Brown Smokehouse, 25-08 37th Ave. [Crescent/27th] 718.361.0085, rocks Kansas City BBQ. Pair with a visit to the American Museum of the Moving Image (about a 10-minute walk).

The Bar Henry/Cafe Henri team will open Casa Enrique, 5-48 49th Ave. [Vernon/5th], later this fall. Chef Cosme Aguilar will dig into his Chiapas roots for—magic words—authentic Mexican food.
