Robin Hood Holiday Cards Plus: Every Person in New York |
Here are the depressing statistics from the Robin Hood Foundation:
‣ 1.3 million New Yorkers rely on emergency food.
‣ 9,400 families in NYC will sleep in shelters tonight, an all-time high.
‣ 1.9 million New Yorkers live in poverty.
‣ 40% of families living in poverty in NYC have a working head of household.
For over 20 years, Robin Hood has been running programs to help New Yorkers in need. Currently, they have a dollar-for-dollar matching grant to fight poverty in New York, up to $100 million, so anything you do to help will have double the impact.
This holiday season, one simple way to support what the organization is doing is to buy Robin Hood greeting cards.
There are three designs, including one by Maira Kalman, $2.99 per card, no minimum. You can also have the cards personalized at additional cost. If you can, kick in a donation, too: 100% of donations go directly to programs for impoverished New Yorkers.
