911
From Saturday's Times on fixing the city's antiquated 911 system: "The upgrade, which would put police operators and fire and ambulance dispatchers on the same computer system, reducing overlap and delay, appears to be at least three years away, according to a March 9 letter to two council members from Ronald Bergmann, the acting director of the Department of Information and Technology and Telecommunications." That's the same DoITT that we have been complaining about for their lackadaisical approach to fixing the city's first responder communications technology. Think of it: it will be 2009 at the earliest that the city will fix the 911 system. We must be missing something here, and we'd be grateful if someone would explain where our reasoning is faulty, but shouldn't fixing the emergency systems for citizens and first responders be a top priority for New York?
