Join Gotham Chamber Opera as they perform the rare opera Eliogabalo by Francesco Cavalli at one of New York's sexiest nightspots – The Box, on the Lower East Side.
Based on the life of the Roman emperor Heliogabalus, who reigned from 218 to 222, the opera tells the story of a man who even today remains infamous for his sexual appetites, his appointment of an all-female senate, and his well-deserved assassination. Director James Marvel will immerse the audience in the court and banquet hall of Heliogabalus, and the entertainments preferred by the emperor will be interpreted by some of The Box's alluring performers.
The Box will be transformed into "Club Heliogabalus" for the evening. The bar will be open for drink service, and DJ Executive Realness will be providing a unique mix of Francesco Cavalli and contemporary beats.
