| ‣ UPHOLSTERY AND UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE This should be a good one: The first-ever sale from Ernest Studios, 207 E. 84th [3rd], the upholstery shop run by Ernest Mandel, whose list of clients includes everyone from Jacqueline Onassis to Rod Stewart. When they open the doors June 11th-13th, you'll be able to buy fabrics and trims, drapery sets, custom frames for chairs, head boards, sofas, settees, side chairs and many other items. Some are upholstered and finished, others are ready for fabric selection. Mr. Mandel will be on hand to advise and the studio will finish pieces for you if you want. Admission will be by number, distributed at 8am each day. A shipping agent will be on site, too.
‣ NEW STORE
Clothing from Thomás Meyer's store Desigual, which he started when he was 20 years old in his native Spain, is now sold all over Europe, and now, too, at 594 Bway [Houston/Prince] 212.343.8205. If black is your color, Desigual isn't for you since it's all about color. Some of the stuff tries too hard; then again, we find other pieces irresistible.
