food… Next Wednesday, January 30th, the hugely talented Seamus Mullen, executive chef of Suba and Boqueria, will get up close and personal with Pata Negra pigs as well as Ossabaw Island hogs. Each course of the swinefest will be paired with Iberian wines. The menu:

• Warm white beans, smoked Pata Negra hock, fresh white anchovy en escabeche

• Salad of baby winter lettuce, Pata Negra ham, raw artichokes and pine mushrooms, pan de papada (fat from the pig jowl), hazelnut vinaigrette

• Idiazábal gnocchi, Pata Negra-braised salsify, littleneck clams, Pata Negra broth

• Turbot, Ossabaw Island hog belly, trinxat (usually, a cabbage and potato cake) of Brussels sprouts, ratte potatoes

• Baked Bomba rice, Ossabaw Island hog's ear, tail and trotter, winter vegetables, quince

• Turron ice-cream, drunken figs, Pedro Ximénez sherry, almond praline

concert/auctionMusicians On Call is an organization that brings live music to the bedsides of patients who
are in hospitals throughout the NY area. Seal is headlining their annual fundraising concert, which takes place on January 29th. The online auction (which includes a piano lesson with Gavin DeGraw) is live now. Concert and auction details are here.

cabaret… How great is Amanda Green? Pretty darn great. The songwriter/performer/daughter of Adolph Green and Phyllis Newman has a terrific act, which she'll perform (with special guests) this Monday, January 28th, 7pm ($25) at Birdland. Reservations recommended, 212.581.3080. Hopefully, she'll sing her country western tune "Every Time A Friend Succeeds, A Little Piece of Me Just Dies Inside." In any case, she promises to answer the musical question, "Does This Song Make My Ass Look Phat?"



reading… NYC veteran medical examiner Jonathan Hayes has written his first novel, called Precious Blood, about the hunt for a serial killer on the loose in the city. He'll be talking about his work as a medical examiner and reading from the book tonight, 6:30pm, at the Mercantile Library, 17 E. 47th [5th/Mad].
