movie… Whether or not you've ever read any of Harlan Ellison's prodigious sci-fi output, you're almost certain to enjoy Dreams With Sharp Teeth, playing for a week starting June 4th at Film Forum. It's a documentary about the legendarily and hilariously opinionated, curse-spewing, incorrigible life force, not to mention author of innumerable short stories, novellas, and episodes of Star Trek and The Outer Limits. Watch the trailer here, but be warned: it's definitely not G-rated.

bookDreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East by journalist Robin Wright is a fascinating, country-by-country look at the nations in the Middle East that are struggling mightily with the "dynamic tension of change." Ms. Wright not only provides historical context, she introduces you to key people—the 'dreamers' and the reactionaries—who provide a human face to the roiling currents of the region. A great read.
