music Cellist Julia Kent (born in Canada, based in NYC) has performed with Antony and the Johnsons, though her experimental solo work, which combines the cello with found sounds and electronics, is earning her an enthusiastic following. Ms. Kent will perform at the Owl Music Parlor on December 12 from her latest album Asperities.

But John Doyle has directed this revival, now in previews at the Bernard Jacobs, with Cynthia Erivo as Celie and Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avery. This could be the stealth hit of the season.
