We Know What God Wants

Oh yeah, we do. Direct pipeline. And God wants us to follow Jerry Falwell's logic. September 11th, remember, came about because of abortionists, gays, and others who are trying to mock God, according to Falwell:

"The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say: you helped this happen."

Can't argue with that. God is pissed, bad stuff happens. Cause and effect.

Well, here's a little newsflash: God read the galleys of the new book by Pope John Paul II, Memory and Identity, and He was not amused. In fact, just today, God sent JP back to the hospital with the admonition, "No book tour for you!" And just what set God off?

God was mad because JP compared abortionists to Nazis. "There is still, however a legal extermination of human beings who have been conceived but not yet born…And this time we are talking about an extermination which has been allowed by nothing less than democratically elected parliaments where one normally hears appeals for the civil progress of society and all humanity."

And God was frankly ready to rip JP a new one (leaving aside any potential ironies in that) for his take on gay marriage: "It is legitimate and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps part of a new ideology of evil, perhaps more insidious and hidden, which attempts to pit human rights against the family and against man."

It is a legitimate and necessary, God reminded us, to ask oneself if this sort of hatred is not perhaps part of an old ideology of evil, insidious and hidden, which attempts to pit humans against each other.

All of which makes it a fine day to make a contribution to the ACLU. It's what God wants.
