Where to Take Them
Every Person in New York

Your rich uncle
What's the point of having a rich uncle if he won't take you out on an expensive bender? Steer him (or her, if your rich uncle happens to be a rich aunt) to Marea, 240 CPS [Bway/7th] 212.582.5100, where Michael White and seafood harmonize beautifully.

Your old college roommate…
Hoist a pint to your salad days at the beer garden Birreria, opening soon atop Eataly. They'll be serving Dogfish Head ales, as well as Birreria del Borgo and Birreria Baladin, none of which you drank in college.

V.I.P.s…
Where else would they rather go? At Daniel, 60 E. 65th [Mad/Park] 212.288.0033, kings eat like kings, but then, so does everybody else.

Friends who would appreciate a pretzel dog and a Singapore Sling…
Head west to The Rusty Knot, 425 West Street [10th/11th] 212.645.5668, the nautical-themed dive bar where you can throw back tiki-style drinks, fuel up with tacos and pretzel dogs, and practice your best pirate lines.

Foodie friends…
David Chang doesn't make it easy to score a spot at the 12-seat Momofuku Ko, 163 1st [10th/11th], and that's fine by us. The effort (online reservations only) is more than rewarded by the inspired parade of Changian plates. Warm and fuzzy? Nah, they're nice enough, but bonding is only for you and your dinner companions.

Clients you like…
Another Michael White restaurant (see Marea above), Ai Fiori, 400 5th [7th] 212.613.8660, is perfect for a business meal since the Mediterranean menu is both accessible and interesting, the place is stylish enough (it's in the Setai Hotel), and if you go for the prix fixe of $79 for four courses, accounting won't complain. Anglophile friends…
For your Toad in the Hole and Sticky Toffee Pudding, head to the The Clerkenwell, 49 Clinton [Riv/Stanton] 212.614.3234. But Vermont cheese? Why not Appleby Cheshire?

Francophile friends…
Laurent Manrique can cook, so it's no surprise that you'll eat well at his seafood brasserie Millesime, 92 Mad [29th] 212.889.7100, at the Carlton Hotel. Unexpected: the Left Bank feel.

Spur-of-the-the-moment friends…
John Fraser's What Happens When, 25 Cleveland Pl. [Spring/Kenmare] 212.925.8310, proves pop-up restaurants can work very well. This one is reinventing itself monthly through the summer. CC only, no cash. [Photo: Jason Tarvin]
