10 Weekend Pleasures

Movies: "A Mighty Wind" reunites writer-director Christopher Guest's de facto comedy troupe, among the funniest on the planet.

Books: The Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown's thriller is, despite the cheesiest of covers, smart and genuinely thrilling.

Walk: Stroll along Hudson River Park and see the beautifully renovated Pier 45 at Christopher Street, due to open any minute.

Sports: The Mets take on the Marlins at Shea, 1:10pm on Saturday and Sunday, while the Yankees play the Twins in Minnesota.

Gay and Lesbian: If you like "So Graham Norton" on BBC America, you'll like solo Graham Norton at the East 13th St. Theater, 136 E. 13th [3rd/4th] 212.741.0391.

Shopping: Design within Reach, 142 Wooster [Prince] 212.475.0001, which sells modern designer furniture, has opened its Soho store, while another is due soon in the Meatpacking District.

For Kids: They'll love the new Broadway show "A Year with Frog and Toad", at the Cort Theatre, 138 W. 48th [6th/7th] 212.239.6200, based on the popular children's books by Arnold Lobel.

Bar: Ava Penthouse Lounge, 210 W. 55th [Bway/7th] 212.956.7020. A retro chic look, dramatic views over Times Square and an outdoor roof terrace are the draws.

Brunch: Brunch has never been our favorite event (why have one meal when you could have two?) but when pressed, we'd choose Five Points, 31 Great Jones [Bowery/Lafayette] 212.253.5700 (Sundays only).

Music: The Sea and Cake at Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey [Bowery] 212.533.2111, Friday at 11pm. Brazilian jazz, some electronica, and sweepingly melodic pop begin to describe this exceptional, if uncategorizable, Chicago band.

Finally, for car buffs, it's NY International Auto Show time at the Javits Center, now through April 27th. Today, the hours are 11am-8pm. After that, 11am-10:30pm, Sundays 10am-7pm.
