Anne Frank Center

Here's one thing you probably don't know about Anne Frank: there is an Anne Frank Center downtown on Crosby Street.

It may be a modest space, but it's fully committed to the spirit of that amazing child. By sending out touring exhibitions and sponsoring workshops and other educational programs, the Center helps teach children across the country about tolerance, something not exactly in abundant supply in the world right now. Back on Crosby street, you'll find scale models, books, photographs, videos and an exhibit (though the next one won't be up for another couple of weeks).

One other thing you may not know: The Center will hold a cocktail party and book auction, tomorrow night (April 14) from 7-10pm at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park S. Tickets are $60 in advance and $75 the day of the event.

For auction will be two diaries signed by Miep Gies, as well as books signed by Calvin Trillin, Tom Otterness, Annie Leibovitz, and Madeleine Albright, among other notables in various fields.

Anne would have been 75 this coming June 12.
