The remote kingdom of Ladakh in eastern Kashmir has been in the lens of Prabir Purkayastha for the past 16 years. See the images on his site — they're breathtaking. W. H. Auden
Auden gave talks at the 92nd St. Y more than 30 times in his life. Fitting, then, that they're celebrating his centenary, on March 5th, 8pm. On hand will be Shirley Hazzard, J.D. McClatchy, Edward Mendelson, Ned Rorem, Charles Rosen, and Oliver Sacks.

The Gilded Age
At NYU, April 20th and 21st, a two-day class on late-19th-century American arts and culture. Sargent, Tiffany, and Richard Morris Hunt will figure prominently.

Uncertainty Principle
Quantum physics is way out of our league. But something about the act of measuring interferes with the thing being measured, is that it in a nutshell? We have no idea. But whatever it is, it will be considered at the Museum of Natural History on March 1st, 7pm, by David Lindley, author of Uncertainty: Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohr and the Struggle for the Soul of Science.
