Beaded stars that you can turn into a brooch, necklace, or other piece of jewelry are the focus of the day, Saturday, March 14th, in a class taught by the Bead Society of Greater NY, held at FIT. $65.
Also this Saturday, 10am-4pm, the Center for Book Arts, 28 W. 27th [6th/Bway] holds a class in DIY Bookbinding. A pile of recipes, kids' paintings, or stack of photos can turn into a book, ribbon bookmark included. $150
The basics of water-based silkscreening are taught at the Lower East Side Printshop, 306 W. 37th [8th/9th], giving you the skills to print all kinds of imagery on paper, fabric, and much else. Six sessions, $395, two sections, the first beginning May 14th, 6pm-9pm.
At the Manhattan Graphics Center, 481 Washington [Spring/Canal], Making Prints On and Off the Press works with nontraditional materials for creating prints. March 26th and April 2nd, 10:30am-4:30pm, $225.
For five Wednesdays at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, starting March 18th, 2pm-5pm, learn how to observe the buds, leaves, flowers, and stems of springtime, and illustrate same. $145
Step away from the computer and learn the art of calligraphy in this introductory class on April 18th and 25th, 9:30am-3:30pm, $190, offered through the Society of Scribes at the SVA, 214 E. 21st [2nd/3rd].
In the five-person classes of master goldsmith and jewelry designer Cecelia Bauer, you'll learn a wide range of skills, including working with gold and silver, soldering, and setting stones. Ten classes, three hours each, $750.
