Part 1


The fall theater season is heavy on the revivals, including a lively production of You Can't Take It With You starring James Earl Jones now in previews… New works we're looking forward to include Britain's National Theatre production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the wonderful book by Mark Haddon… After a run last year at Lincoln Center, Disgraced, Ayad Akhtar's play about race and assimilation in America, won the Pulitzer Prize, and now a Broadway version… The Last Ship, aka the Sting musical, is the story of English shipyard workers through thick and thin. It stars the seriously talented actor Michael Esper… Off-Broadway, Tail! Spin! features Rachel Dratch in a sex-scandal comedy built on the actual words, emails and tweets from politicians who have better things to do, but don't.


The third annual Photoville will again use shipping containers to display dozens of photo exhibitions. Also, workshops, talks and a Smorgasburg beer garden. September 18-28

The Cooper Hewitt reopens in December after a major reno… Chris Ofili has his first major solo exhibit at the New Museum… There's Schiele at the Neue, Matisse Cut-Outs at MoMA, and El Greco gets an exhibition el grande at the Met.
