Flight 001
Every Person in New York

In June 1947, Pan Am launched Flight 001, which, over the course of two days, flew from San Francisco to New York, westbound, via Honolulu, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Beirut, Istanbul, Frankfurt, and London. Flight 002 did it in reverse, from New York to San Fran. It didn't get you around the world fast, but got you there in style.

In 1998, seven years after Pan Am had gone bankrupt, John Sencion and Brad John were flying between New York and Paris when they came up with the idea of a store where you could buy all kinds of travel goods in one place. The beauty part of what Sencion and John created in their small shop called Flight 001, 96 Greenwich Ave. [W. 12th/ 13th] 212.989.0001, (now replicated in about 20 locations around the world) is the sense of Pan Am 001 style they bring to each location, evoking swoopy, swinging-60s passenger cabins.

The products they stock on their shelves share their sense of style, some of which they produce themselves and are 001-branded. You'll also find luggage, travel blankets and eye masks, adapters and guide books and maps, a spork and soap powder.

Flight 001' s website includes helpful tips on things like finding the right adapter and how to pack for two weeks in one suitcase. For the road warrior or for a casual getaway, you'll find something to make the journey a little more pleasant.
