The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival takes place April 3rd at the Altman Building.

Game on for knife skills at two events: Knife expert Gianni Savoca answers your questions on Thursday, March 24th, 6:30pm, at Broadway Panhandler … And improve your slicing and dicing form with Joshua Stokes, who teaches Know Your Knife at Astor Center, Saturday, March 26th, noon-4pm. $95

Front of house hiring has started for the new restaurant Andrew Carmellini is opening in the old Cub Room space (with two of his partners from Locanda Verde). That means the doors should open soon for The Dutch where, we're pleased to note (with apologies to our Dutch friends), they'll be serving American food, not Dutch.

Disposable income? Foodie? Love wine? No question about it: Spend the evening of Wednesday, March 23rd in the private dining room of Craft, where you'll get to taste the coveted wines from Robert Sinskey paired with Confit of Hamachi with Sweet Peas, Meyer Lemon, and Spring Onion; Guinea Hen Agnolotti with Bittersweet Chocolate and Leeks; and Roasted Lamb Loin, Stinging Nettles, Morels, and Lamb Bacon. One of our longtime favorite chefs, Jonathan Waxman, has a new book out on April 5th called Italian, My Way: More Than 150 Simple and Inspired Recipes That Breathe New Life into Italian Classics. We'll be making room on our shelf for it.

Just opened in Astoria, Pachanga Patterson, 33-17 31st Ave. [34th St.] 718.554.0525, a Mexican restaurant of a sort: artisanal ingredients, sourced locally, with dishes they would recognize in Mexico, and others, such as Moo Shu Duck Taco, that they would not. It's the welcome new entry from chef Michelle Vido and her partners, Giuseppe Falco and Leo Sacco, who run Vesta Trattoria and Wine Bar in the nabe.

On Saturday, April 9th, South Street Oyster Saloon, a fundraiser for New Amsterdam Market, with plenty of oysters on hand, cask beers, and menu items from chefs like April Bloomfield. Tickets go on sale soon, $50.

Coming up is the 16th annual Maple Weekend, when New York State maple producers open their doors over two weekends, March 19th-20th and March 26th-27th.

Even if artichokes don't have the aphrodisiac qualities that people have claimed over thousands of years, as veggies they definitely rock. (And yes, we know they're technically thistles). Learn All About Artichokes from Peter Berley, former executive chef of Angelica Kitchen, on March 24th, at the ICE. $95.
