Bon Appetit describes the work being done in Puerto Rico by chefs José Enrique and José Andrés to keep people fed. Mr. Andrés' nonprofit, World Central Kitchen, gets food to disaster victims on an unfortunately regular basis.

Kitchen Creativity: Unlocking Culinary Genius—with Wisdom, Inspiration, and Ideas from the World's Most Creative Chefs is the latest contribution to the culinary world by Karen Page with photos by husband Andrew Dornenburg, out October 31. Their books are essential tools for any kitchen. Ms. Page will be at 92Y on Wednesday, November 1, 7pm, $29 discussing the theme of her book: How do I cook something new tonight?

You will not be grabbing a drink at The Aviary, where the Alinea crew's creative new cocktail bar at the Mandarin Oriental. To snag one of the 90 seats, you need to reserve well in advance for your party of 2-4 people and pay a $20 deposit per person (applied to your final bill). They're currently booking through October 13 and there are a couple of tables at 5pm for four people still available. They say they accept walk-ins, so you can try that, but your best bet is to reserve ahead.

The Toast of France Wine Tasting, with over 100 selections, will be held at Le Du's Wines on Sunday, October 8, 1-5pm, $99-$150, with 100% of the proceeds going to Wheeling Forward, an organization dedicated to helping disabled people get the services they need. Tickets

At Brooklyn Kitchen tomorrow, October 3, and again on November 1, hands-on cooking lessons for four of the recipes in Taste of Persia: A Cook's Travels Through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, and Kurdistan by Naomi Duguid. $95
