Newsfakers-Filmmakers is a film series beginning September 27th, 8pm, at the IFC Center, 323 6th [W. 3rd]. Included will be several short films from members of the Daily Show staff. Opening night will benefit 826NYC, the non-profit tutoring center and writing lab for Brooklyn kids. The opening night of the showing will include a reception for the filmmakers as well as audience members to benefit 826NYC. Tickets are $40 and available by calling 212.924.7771.

SCTV was one of the great television comedies of all time. Join cast members Andrea Martin (pictured as Edith Prickley), Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and Joe Flaherty this Monday, September 12th, 8pm, at Makor, 35 W. 67th [CPW/Col] 212.601.1000, in the first of a series called Televisionaries about great TV shows and their creators. SCTV: Volume 4 on DVD will be released on September 13th.

All we need to know is that it's a play by Christopher Durang and that it's called "Miss Witherspoon," which already makes us laugh. According to the theatre, it's about a woman named Veronica who, in life, "turned her back on religion — so why is she spending eternity in the netherworld with a Hindu spirit guide who calls her Miss Witherspoon? And why is she continually being sent back to earth to live lives she adamantly refuses to lead? Will she open herself up to enlightenment and learn her place in the world?" ShameSpiral is one of several new rotating mini-features we're adding to our Radar section. Normally, this will be a quick chronicle of misdeeds, bad behavior, and appalling comments from locals. But at the moment, it's hard to overlook the miasma of contempt emanating from the Bush family. Barbara Bush, touring the Houston Astrodome, said of the people forced out of New Orleans, "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."
