Matte Stephens
Flickr Pool Picks

We've been doing the happy dance over here because the amazingly talented illustrator Matte Stephens has agreed to do the artwork for the cover of Shop Talk: New York's 100 Most Interesting Stores (that MUG is crowdfunding now).

His gouache paintings combine affection for Mid-Century Modern color and lines with a wry, off-center look at the people, animals and pastimes, real and imagined, that make up the artist's world. (The painting at top is Lillian playing with an abstract thought).

The point of this is that when Shop Talk is published, please, please, judge it by its cover.

Today we're sharing a few of Matte's New York drawings. See more of his work here and at his Etsy shop, where prints start at $35.
