MUG Needs Your Support

MUG needs your support! As we wrote in yesterday's email, we need your help to meet our $50,000 operating budget for 2014. To date, we've raised $33,140. If you haven't had a chance yet this year to do so, please support MUG in any amount! Every donation, large or small, will help keep the lights on at MUG.

If you watch HGTV design shows, you know that any room in your apartment or house is an abject failure if things don't "pop" in it. "This pillow will bring a pop of color," the designer says to the camera, and you nod skeptically, thinking… well, it's adding the color fuchsia to the room. Pop?

You want to know what will make your room really pop? RePop, 143 Roebling [Metropolitan/Hope] 718.260.8032. Opened in 2005 by Russell Boyle and Carl Grauer (Mr. Grauer is now pursuing fine art full time), it moved to its current location in 2012.

Mr. Boyle says, "I have always been interested in the '30s-'60s time periods as my grandmother was a bit of an eccentric hoarder. I spent many weekends in her house, which was outfitted with all sorts of curious items (furniture and weird, creepy stuff alike) from the Great Depression on."

There's a little bit of weird, creepy stuff at RePop and a lot of functional furniture with great lines. We could live happily with almost everything they sell and there aren't many stores we can say that about.

A Deco fan lady bottle opener hangs by a dining table, near a croquet set, across from a red and blue industrial stool and a wooden pig cutting board. You may find a Heywood-Wakefield vanity chest, a Norman Bel Geddes armchair or a Citgo pedal car. For the city, prices are very reasonable.

With an item or two from RePop, your place will have all the effervescence it needs.
