New York Vintage
Every Person in New York

Let's say our understanding of physics has evolved and Rita Hayworth is back with us. She and Zelda Fitzgerald are attending a big event together at the Met's Temple of Dendur a month from now. They want to look smashing. You would send them, without hesitation, to New York Vintage, 117 W. 25th [6th/7th] 212.647.1107.

Shannon Hoey's large showroom has vintage clothing, accessories, and jewelry prêt for you to porter. But they also have, by appointment, a library of 5,000 one-of-a-kinds, so be sure Rita and Zelda know about that.

New York Vintage is where designers, stylists, fashion industry folks and (living) celebrities make easy work of creating memorable ensembles. The clothing is from auctions, estates, private collections, even deaccessioning museums. There are vintage pieces from over 100 years of fashion.

Michelle Obama wore a 1950s black lace dress from here by Norman Norell for a televised Christmas special in 2010. In some ways, Norell is a perfect example of the kind of gorgeous, unexpected garb you'll find at New York Vintage.

Mrs. Obama looked beautiful. Rita and Zelda would, too. And so will you.

Jason Polan started Every Person in New York in March of 2008. He plans on working on the project until it is finished. Look for more at Jason's site and his book Every Person in New York.
