The Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church, 131 E. 10th [2nd] 212.674.6377, is the poetry capital of New York. You can help support them on Saturday, April 17th from 3pm-7pm as they hold a party/silent auction/fundraiser. There will be readings from poets Edmund Berrigan and Brenda Coultas, as well as a performance by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth). In the auction will be signed books, collages, drawings, letters, manuscript pages, paintings, and prints by Sherman Alexie, Rudy Burckhardt, Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, and Kiki Smith, among others. $10 admission.

The Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery [1st] 212.614.0505. Readings, slams, gatherings, parties, events, open mics — does that about cover it? Probably not. The Segue Reading Series is especially noteworthy.

A Taste of Art, 147 Duane [Church/W. Bway] 212.964.5493, is an art gallery that also sells Petrossian products, that also has a bartender and serves vodka and Champagne, that also has a poetry reading series. Tonight from 7-9pm, Christopher Stackhouse hosts poets and writers Thomas Sayers-Ellis, Noelle Kocot, Brandon Downing and Betsy Andrews. Forgive our purple prose, but Ms. Andrews definitely rocks. Her new chapbook is called She-Devil and is available from Sardines Press. Email for more info. hosts readings a couple of times a month at Pete's Candy Store, 709 Lorimer [Frost/Richardson] Williamsburg 718.302.3770. (From bingo to poetry readings to showcasing great bands like the Bootleg Remedy, it gets harder and harder to do an article without mentioning Pete's.)

Poet's House, 72 Spring [Crosby/Lafayette] 212.431.7920, has a 40,000 volume poetry collection (open to the public) and programs all kinds of readings and events. On now (through April 30) is their annual Poets House Showcase, which gathers together nearly every volume of poetry published in the U.S. in the past year.

Dwell, 399 W. Bway [Spring], will have a sale on their great-looking contemporary bedding and throw pillows: for example, cotton queen size sheet sets (includes fitted and flat sheets and pair of pillowcases) originally $150, now $75. Thursday, April 8th thru Sunday, April 11th, 11-7. Cash, V, MC.
