Every Person in New York

Williamsburg's Sprout Home, 59 Grand St. [Kent/Wythe] 718.388.4440, makes for an especially restorative shopping experience among a peaceful riot of greens.

The Brooklyn Sprout, opened in 2007, is an offshoot of the original Chicago store. It doubled up in 2010 two doors down. One space sells cut flowers, annuals, and perennials (check out their picks for five no-kill house plants and their book Rooted in Design: Sprout Home's Guide to Creative Indoor Planting), pots and vases, pruners, trowels and watering cans. At the other, Kitchen + Table, 44 Grand, you can buy things like bowls, plates, knives, cocktail shakers, and other goodies for the well-stocked pad.

Sprout does gorgeous arrangements, bridal bouquets, and they offer garden design services. They have classes in terrariums and flower arranging and, on June 22, there's a Ladybug Release Party which, happily, is exactly what it sounds like.

Jason Polan started Every Person in New York in March of 2008. He plans on working on the project until it is finished. Look for more at Jason's site and his book Every Person in New York.
