The Food Bank for NYC

The Food Bank for NYC is the city's only food bank and the largest in the country. They collect food from manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, get it to their own warehouse, then distribute it to 1,000 community programs, feeding over 200,000 people a day. The Food Bank is instrumental in supplying food for over 84 million meals a year given to New Yorkers who would otherwise go without.

A donation of $10 translates to meals for 65 people. You can provide food, money, or volunteer your time to help deal with the food delivered to their warehouse. This is the 20th anniversary of the food bank's efforts and MUG calls your attention to their great work. If you can help, please do. You can donate online here or by calling 212.566.7855.
New York Cares is a clearinghouse of volunteering opportunities in the five boroughs, as is the Volunteer Referral Center.
