dance… At P.S. 122, a return of Pavel Zustiak's dance company Palissimo and Le Petit Mort. A triumphant return as it turns out, as the company faced serious injuries during the previous, abortive run last December. The accomplished (and recovered) cast performs from April 12 -15. More

indie rock… Friday: Sweden's Loney, Dear brings their grand orchestral pop to Webster Hall (with Low). Sunday: Eccentric electropop comes to Bowery Ballroom with the wonderfully weird Xiu Xiu. Just announced…4/24: Patti Smith. 6/7: The Sea & Cake. 6/25: Seu Jorge.

benefit… Next Tuesday, 8pm, "The World, Explained," a benefit for the very worthy 826LA and 826NYC. Eugene Mirman hosts, John Oliver of "The Daily Show" and David Rakoff, among others, participate. Details, tickets, which are $21 in advance. The event is at Symphony Space.

book… East and West, the personal and the political, a Pakistani and an American, pre-9/11 and post-9/11 are the framework for a story told in a cafe — that's the setup for The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Moshin Hamid. A thoroughly engrossing read.

theater… In previews now is the West End hit Frost/Nixon, starring Frank Langella and Michael Sheen (who played Tony Blair in the movie The Queen). The play was written by Peter Morgan, who wrote both The Queen and The Last King of Scotland.

fashion… If you haven't gotten around to seeing the Ralph Rucci retrospective at FIT, you have until April 14 to go. And it's well worth a visit: there are few designers working today (and even fewer American designers) who have anything like Rucci's confident subtlety. And, refreshingly, he's not focused on designing something hip for 25-year-olds to wear; instead, beautiful, timeless garments.

games… Quizmaster Noah Tarnow hosts another Big Quiz Thing this coming Monday, April 9th, 8pm, at the Slipper Room, 167 Orchard [Stanton]. $7 to play, $200 grand prize.
