event… Easy enough to know where all the cool kids will be on the evening of August 26: at the Beacon for the second annual Revenge of the Bookeaters, a benefit for Dave Eggers' 826NYC and their free writing programs for children. Hosted by Demetri Martin, the evening will feature Feist, A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers, Britt Daniel of Spoon, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Sarah Vowell, and Grizzly Bear. documentary… Yet another documentary about an unlikely subject, The King of Kong is the story of a middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul competing for the Donkey Kong Guinness World Record. Not only unlikely, but unpromising, right? Rolling Stone: "Roaringly funny" Entertainment Weekly: "A funny and madly arresting new documentary." One never knows, do one?

classics… Up at Symphony Space they're getting to the end of the Dietrich/Garbo festival, but some good stuff is still to come, including The Blue Angel on Saturday and Sunday.

books… Tomorrow night, 7pm, at McNally-Robinson, 50 Prince [Laf/Mulberry], Rupert Thomson, author of Death of a Murderer talks with Maud Newton. The new book is a fictional account of the hours following the death of Myra Hindley (though she isn't named), Britain's reviled serial killer. With her in the morgue is Office Billy Tyler, and the book follows his long night of the soul in Hindley's company.

out of town… A day trip to Hudson, NY, sponsored by ArtForward and Gallivant, is this Saturday, leaving 8:30am, returning 11pm, $99. Check out the art scene in Hudson and the antique shops, too.
