documentary…It's unlikely you will see a more thrilling movie this weekend than Antonio Gaudí, Hiroshi Teshigahara's celebration of the Catalan architect, set to Toru Takemitsu's score — it's one of the most successful art house films ever made. photography… "Kathy's Beauty Nook: Photographs by John Arsenault" may be a variation on the "Steel Magnolias" theme, but Mr. Arsenault comes by his subject honestly, having spent a lot of his childhood free time at his aunt's hair salon in northern Massachusetts. gay and lesbian…This Friday from 7-9pm, there's a wine tasting for gay and lesbian singles. It takes place at the Paul Sharpe Contemporary Art Gallery, 525 W. 29th [10/11th]. Tickets are $30 online, $50 at the door.

indie rock… R. Star performs at Joe's Pub on Tuesday, 9:30pm, $12. Star has a commanding, slightly raspy, open-throated voice that he skillfully modulates to his power emo material.

bike ride… On Sunday, the Five Borough Bicycle Club heads out at 9:45am for a 30-mile Frostbite Ride that is rewarded with a stop at the Broadway Diner in Bayonne, home of (what the diner calls) the "World's Greatest Pancakes." Day rides are free, a yearly 5BBC membership is $20.

travel… At Site 59, they've got a deal to Banff, flight and hotel, for $512, from Saturday, March 4 through Tuesday, March 7. There are other dates available at varying prices.
