photography… Oh, oh, oh, paging Dr. Freud. In her show at the Yossi Milo Gallery, 525 W. 25th [10th/11th] 212.414.0370, Loretta Lux's images of children, achieved through a combination of photography, painting, and digital manipulation, are anything but warm and fuzzy. Some take famous paintings as their starting point, but they quickly swerve into the subtly not-quite-right, the vaguely disturbing, and the just get me out of here.

out of town… Airfare and six nights in Rio and Buenos Aires starts at $799 this fall atGo-Today. Read about the lure of Buenos Aires in yesterday's Slate. We have to concur — the few days we spent last year among the Portenos made us fall completely for B.A.

reading… Pete Hamill, Malachy McCourt, Isaiah Sheffer, and many others, along with host Larry Kirwan (Black 47's lead singer), will take part in an evening of readings, music, and surely some righteous indignation, as they fight to save historic St. Brigid's at Avenue B and 8th Street, which is threatened with demolition by the archdiocese. The event is tonight, 7-10pm, at Connolly's, 121 W. 45th [6th/7th] 212.597.5126, $20, tickets and more info.
