event Shinsai: Theaters for Japan is the result of commissions from American and Japanese theater artists—plays and music performed to draw attention, on Sunday, March 11th, to the one-year anniversary of the earthquake and subsequent disasters that befell Japan. The works will be presented in two performances, 3pm and 8pm, tickets are $25 for general admission ($250 for reserved seating) and the event takes place at Cooper Union's Great Hall. Proceeds go to members of Japan's theater community affected by the earthquake.

movies Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a documentary about Jiro Ono, considered by many the world's greatest sushi chef; his 10-seat spot in a Tokyo subway station has 3 Michelin stars. The film opens on Friday at Lincoln Plaza and IFC.
