design… For those of you sitting on one of Humanscale's chairs right now, you know that designer Niels Diffrient has turned office seating and ergonomics into an artform. So it's fitting that Mr. Diffrient will be talking with NY Times art critic Michael Kimmelman in a conversation called "Art Meets Design and Other Conundrums." Tonight, 6:30-8:30pm at Scandinavia House, 58 Park [58th] 212.879.9779, $20.

Starts May 9th at the Village East Cinemas. Get the details here.

art … It's been too long since James Casebere has exhibited new work in New York — the last time was 2003. So we're looking forward to "The Levant," opening tomorrow at Sean Kelly Gallery, 528 W. 29th [10th/11th] 212.239.1181. Mr. Casebere's method is to create elaborate architectural models and then photograph them in his studio. This show, inspired by religious and secular architecture of the Middle East, will surely be — as always with Mr. Casebere — fascinating, beautiful, and mysterious.
