tour… Here's a chance to take your first walk on the High Line. On Saturday October 6 and Sunday, October 7, it will be available for touring as part of that great annual event Open House New York. There are only a limited number of spaces available and reservations are a must. They'll be taking reservations starting tomorrow—check the High Line website then for details.

book… At the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 W. 17th [6th/7th] 212.620.5000, Ben Ratliff, author of the new biography Coltrane: The Story of a Sound, will discuss the great jazz saxophonist. Friday, 6pm.

theater… Catch rising-star theater composer Jeremy Schonfeld at Ars Nova at 8pm, October 1st, in an evening called "New York Storybook," with Broadway performers lending a hand singing Schonfeld's songs.
