fri 7:30pm doors, 8pm show: contemporary ensemble hotel elefant opens its season with a split bill led by two of the ensemble's composer-performers. the cell theatre (chelsea), pay-what-you-want admission.

sat 10am-5pm: fill up on fiber at the sixth annual kings county fiber festival, an outdoor pop-up market filled with 30 vendors, demos, and hands-on activities. old stone house (park slope), free.

sat 12-2pm: pups on parade! tiny tail-waggers meet and greet at the washington square park arch for the annual dachshund friendship club's dachshund oktoberfest meetup. free.

sat 12-4pm: turn on the (little) red light(house). manhattan has only one lighthouse left, and you can visit it at the annual family-friendly little red lighthouse festival, located just underneath the george washington bridge in fort washington park. free.

sat 2-9pm: the largest diwali festival outside of india fills times square with music, performances, vendors, 'digital fireworks,' and food + drinks. free admission.

sat 6-9pm, 9-11pm: get literary at the brooklyn lit crawl, a bookish tour hitting fort greene bars + cafes with readings, discussions, trivia, and and after party. free.

sun 12:30-7pm: at the new york african restaurant week festival, enjoy cuisines from 25 food vendors representing cuisines from across the continent, along with chef demos, pop-up shops, and music. industry city, 10+.
