fri thru sun: peruse arty books at printed matter's 14th annual ny art book fair at moma ps1 in long island city (fri thru sun) and the fourth annual independent art book fair at industria studios in williamsburg (sat + sun). free admission.

fri thru sun: the 13th annual bushwick open studios returns with three days of art shows, parties, and performances. various bushwick locations, most events are free.

fri thru sun: 50 world-touring bands bring folk, bluegrass, jazz and more to seven outdoor and artist-owned and operated indoor establishments in dumbo and red hook for the fifth annual brooklyn americana music festival. opening gala at jalopy theatre thursday ($25), then all shows friday thru sunday are free. the skint is a media sponsor for this festival.

fri thru mon: the 14th annual brooklyn book festival, the largest free literary event in nyc, continues a week of more than 60 'bookend' events across the boroughs, and culminates with a children's day saturday and a festival day + marketplace featuring hundreds of authors and booksellers on sunday.
