What's New
Every Person in New York

Four new rides, two of which are roller coasters,
make their debut this weekend at Scream Zone in Coney Island
— strap in for Soarin' Eagle and Steeplechase!

In the Garden of Beasts, the new book out May 10th by the author of The Devil in the White City, tells the true story of Chicago's Dodd family in 1933, when they were in Berlin and, for a time, in thrall
to the events taking place there.

Most new developments are happy to tout the name of the architect. But Robert Scarano's name isn't anywhere to be found in the printed materials of Kirkman Lofts in Vinegar Hill (or Dumbo, depending on your point of view), now showing a few model units. The old soap factory may turn out to be a successful residential development, but as this article in the Times details, Scarano's reputation leans less starchitect and more Uncle Fester. The project's biggest hurdle, though, is likely to be its
Con Ed plant neighbor.

Another real estate oddity: The Flatiron Hotel, 1141 Bway [26th], is set to open shortly and its 20,000 gallon aquarium is not the surprise here. Instead: it's about to open and it's up for sale.

At last, the first public meals are being served at Andrew Carmellini's new Soho restaurant The Dutch, 131 Sullivan [Prince] 212.677.6200 — but it's late-night service only while the training wheels come off.

Danish designer Henrik Vibskov has opened up his first stateside shop at 456 Broome [Greene/Mercer]. You'll find his fun, eccentric designs for men and women on sale along with other European designers.

A wine studio! What's a wine studio? Laura Maniec, is currently the youngest Master Sommelier in the world as well as the proprietor of the soon-to-open Corkbuzz wine studio on East 13th Street.
When the cork is popped, Corkbuzz will be home
to a wine bar, wine classes, and events.
